A SCADA network consists of Master Terminal Units (MTUs) which operators use to monitor and control a large number of Remote Terminal Units (RTUs). The MTU is usually a general purpose computing platform, such as a personal computer, operating SCADA software. The RTUs are usually small, dedicated devices which are outfitted for outdoor use and industrial environments.
